Case Study
The Wrigley Company Ltd
The Wrigley Company has been a household name synonomous with chewing gum in the UK for nearly 100 years. Imagen were therefore proud to be approached in early 2008 and asked to help in the design of Wrigley’s new Sales Portfolios.
The portfolios had to fulfil a number of important tasks, most vital of which was to accomodate the special PDA machines issued to the company’s representatives.
The special Samsung PDAs were quite bulky and presented some interesting problems. The pocket to hold the machine had to be strong enough whilst still providing a large open area so that the PDA could be used whilst in the pocket. This was achieved by constructing a die-cut and stitched three dimensional pocket with additional strengthening to support the open face design.
Areas also had to be die-cut down the sides of the pocket to allow access to the various charging and USB ports located on the PDA, but without compromising its strength. A full depth flap was then added to enable the face of the PDA to be protected whilst in transit.
Additional pockets were also added to allow for storage of business cards and other important documents.
Security and ease of transporting the portfolios were also high on the list of priorities, and to this end Imagen added a complete wrap around zip fastening to ensure that nothing of importance could fall out and be lost. Also added to to portfolio was a strong carry handle on the exterior spine.
To provide the final executive feel, the exterior of the portfolios were enhanced by the addition of foam padding, stitched edges and reinforced, black painted, metal corners.
Wrigley’s were concerned that a large coloured logo may attract the wrong sort of attention to their representatives when out on the street, but still preferred some form of company branding on their portfolio. Imagen suggested a small, subtle version of the company logo be placed in the bottom corner of the front cover. This was achieved by a process of blind embossing.
